How many racks do you need on your car? If you’re like most people, this isn’t an issue you’ve spent a lot of time thinking about. But if you lead a very active lifestyle, it may loom larger than you ever imagined. Between ski, bike and snowboard racks, your car might start feeling a little overloaded. Still, you need to carefully select your equipment racks because there’s plenty riding on them.
One factor that can seriously impact what type of racks you use actually has nothing to do with the equipment you’re carrying; the health of your back. If you suffer from any kind of back ailment, and many of us do, you’ll definitely want to consider a spare tire bike rack that doesn’t require you to lift the bike above your head. (Of course you need a car with an outside spare tire!)
Rack shoppers should also remember that quality matters when you’re carrying a bike on a car traveling 75 miles an hour. Name brand product like a Swagman bike rack costs a little more than generic brands, but provides plenty of protection for your investment.
There’s probably more to rack shopping than you ever imagined, but if you do your homework and are willing to spend a little money, you’ll find the right combination.
